"If you do what you love, you won't work a day in your life" is WRONG!

We've all heard the quote:

 "If you do what you love, you won't work a day in your life"

  I was having lunch with a friend recently and that quote came up and it occurred to me that I do not believe this to be exactly true. I do understand the idea and meaning, but I feel it is a bit misleading. It's saying that if we are doing what we love, we will be in a constant state of bliss, which paints a picture that it is only good and nothing will get you down.

    As a full time music producer I get to do what I love every day, but I will tell you, it takes a lot of work and determination to make it happen. There are many long hours and aspects of the job that are tedious and require patience and focus.  

 This applies to anyone in life, but especially on our music journey because there is so much work involved. No matter how much success we achieve, we still need to work daily to keep things moving forward. 

  The most important thing about doing what you love- is that when you do it, you can experience fulfillment in a way that you could not otherwise. 

When we make real impact through our own gifts and talents, there is nothing like it.

When we do what we love, we can joyfully work through the highs and the lows because we know what we do matters.

  So, I want to propose a revised version of the quote that is hopefully encouraging to you:

  "When you do what you love, you work hard every day because your work is full of fulfillment."

My encouragement is whichever aspect of music you are chasing, work hard at it because you will find true fulfillment in it. 

It WILL feel like work some days, but it WILL be the best work you can do!
