Patience + Perseverance = Success
Jul 03, 2021There is so much I have learned over the last few years when it comes to my music journey and running my business. Most of the time these lessons come through trying things that don't work as well as I thought they would, and learning how to make them better. God has been teaching me so many lessons along the way, but one formula He laid on my heart when I first started in all this is: Patience + Perseverance = Success. This has become the motto of my company and honestly, my life. I believe these principles apply to all of us, so I wanted to break down the elements as I hope it will be an encouragement to you on your journey.
Patience, we all know what it is but none of us like it! One thing God always reminds me of is how patience is a fruit of the Spirit. There are only 9 fruits of the Spirit, so if patience is one of them, then it must be very important to our lives. I think it is more than just the waiting.. I feel the patience God is talking about here is more about being satisfied with the waiting. If we can find peace in the waiting, then we are setting ourselves up for a long journey that will be worthwhile and fulfilling.
Perseverance is a characteristic that most of us have on our journeys. We know that we have to keep going in order to accomplish our goals. As long as we are moving forward then we are making progress. One of the key ideas here is that we need to be able to persevere through the tough times and understand that we learn in every circumstance. As long as we don’t quit, we will eventually get to where God is calling us. In “The Parable of the Unjust Judge” Luke 18:1–8, Jesus teaches that perseverance and persistence is a key element in accomplishing things for God. Just as with patience, perseverance is a biblical characteristic that God has given us to achieve our goals.
The first thing I want to say about success is that it’s subjective. Success looks different for all of us. So many of us get caught up in the comparison game because we want the successes of others. Each of us are born to do great things that are specific to us, our personality, and skillsets. Celebrating the little successes along the way will result in a more balanced and fruitful journey. If we think about out, we can celebrate successes every day and I feel God is calling us to do just that.
So when we are patient in the waiting, persistent in our calling, and confident in our journey, we can do anything God is leading us to. Patience + Perseverance = Success is a simple formula that I think about every day as I am trying be the person God has made me to be. This is a universal idea that I hope can be a source of encouragement to you on your journey as well.
